Why this matters for QHA Members

Hospitality business owners face a unique mix of pressures — tight margins, cash flow volatility, staffing challenges, multiple stakeholders and long-term succession decisions. The Owner Manager Program is designed specifically for business owners who want to step back from the day-to-day and address these issues at a strategic level.

The program is exclusive to owners — not employed CEOs or managers — and focuses on the real challenges that limit business performance. Working alongside other owners and an experienced facilitation team, you’ll build clarity around where your business is going and what needs to change to get there.

The Owner Manager Program helps QHA members to:

  • Strengthen cash flow, profitability and financial control
  • Improve leadership capability and management effectiveness
  • Align owners and key stakeholders
  • Plan succession or prepare for exit
  • Regain focus, confidence and direction as an owner

By the end of the program, you’ll have clear priorities, practical tools and a structured plan to build a stronger, more sustainable hospitality business.

A Program for Private Business Owners

The Owner Manager Program is a residential, immersive development experience for owners of privately-owned businesses — focused on strategic planning, leadership growth and real, measurable results.

What you’ll do:

  • 5 blocks across 5 months (3 days/2 nights each)
  • Hands-on sessions tailored to your business
  • Immediate implementation between blocks
  • Peer learning, mentoring and personalised feedback

It’s time to push potential.

QHA Member Scholarship:
$5,000 Toward Your OMP Journey

As part of the partnership between the Queensland Hotels Association and the Owner Manager Program, QHA members are invited to apply for a $5,000 part-scholarship toward the Owner Manager Program.

My advice to someone else thinking of doing the OMP is simple. Do it. It’s fantastic. You’ll get a lot out of it and your business will be better for it.”

For Private Business Owners who...

I am uncertain what the future holds for the business. I need a plan for exit, growth or succession.

Staff are a pain. We need help managing staff (attracting, retaining, training)

I just can’t seem to get out of the day-to-day and focus ON the business

I need to sort retirement, exit, or succession options

I don’t fully understand where the cash is going or how to increase value.

I work long hours. I want to spend more time on other things rather than feeling “married” to my business

I’m tired. I’ve been doing the same things for years and I’m a bit sick of it. I need a shot of motivation for my business

Sometimes it feels like I am  holding the business back. I need to be challenged and improve

I’m lonely in my business. I’ve had coaches and consultants but feel like I have outgrown them. I really want to connect with other owners

How it originated

Rob Douglas and Chris Robinson have worked together for more than a decade, combining their deep experience in growing and transforming private businesses.

In 2011, Rob developed a program in partnership with the Wharton School to help Australian companies expand into the US market. Early clients included Lorna Jane and One Steel Light Steel Beam, with the team developing their US market entry and growth strategies. Rob connected with Chris – former CEO of Amart Allsports, who led a $100m management buyout in 2004 with private equity firm Archer Capital, building the business to $240m and ending with the purchase of Rebel Sport in 2007. Chris’ love of business meant any thoughts of retirement didn’t last long.

Their shared commitment to practical, trusted business support led to years of collaboration, culminating in the creation of the Owner Manager Program. Together, they’ve supported hundreds of private business owners to grow, expand, and plan successful exits.
