Built for You.

Years of proven success for business owners

You've built something real.
An MBA was designed for someone else.

Many business owners reach a point where they feel the need to do something — to invest in themselves and their future. An MBA feels like the obvious answer. It’s prestigious. It signals ambition. It’s what ambitious people do.

But here’s the truth: an MBA was designed for graduates and corporate managers looking to climb the corporate ladder — not for the owner of an established business trying to take it to the next level.

It’s heavy on theory, light on application. It rewards academic performance, not business outcomes. And it’s built around a classroom, not around the real, complex, day-to-day challenges of running a private business.

The Owner Manager Program was created precisely because this gap existed. It’s what an MBA should be — for business owners.

Sound Familiar?

Why the MBA Wasn't Designed for Business Owners

The MBA is a brilliant program — for the right person. That person is typically a graduate or a mid-career corporate professional looking to accelerate their career trajectory. If you already own a business, the MBA’s core assumptions don’t apply to you.

The Problem

Too Theoretical. MBA programs are grounded in academic frameworks, case studies from large multinationals, and research-based models. The theory is sound — but translating it into the specific, practical decisions you face as the owner of a private business is left entirely to you.

The Problem

Focused on Climbing the Corporate Ladder. The MBA is designed to help you get a better job, move into consulting, or transition into senior management. It’s built around career progression within large organisations — not around building, scaling, or realising the value of a business you already own.

The Problem

Assessment-Heavy, Not Outcome-Driven. You’ll write essays, sit exams, and be assessed on academic performance. Success is measured in grades, not in actual business results. For a business owner, this is time and energy diverted away from your greatest asset — your business.

The Problem

Wrong Peer Group. Your cohort will mostly be graduates and mid-career employees with no skin in the game. The conversations, the case studies, and the networking are calibrated to their world — not to the world of a business owner with payroll, clients, and real risk.

The Problem

Takes You Out of the Game. A full-time MBA is two years. A part-time MBA stretches to three or four. For a business owner, that’s years of divided attention — running the business with one hand while writing academic papers with the other. Very few owners can afford that distraction.

The Problem

Enormous Cost for Uncertain Return. Australian MBAs range from $50,000 to $120,000 in fees alone — before you factor in lost time and opportunity cost. For a business owner, this capital could be deployed directly into growth. The return on that investment is far from guaranteed.

There's a program built specifically for business owners like you. Find out if it's the right fit.

MBA vs Owner Manager Program

See exactly how these two programs differ — and why one was built for business owners and one wasn’t.

MBA

Owner Manager Program

Who it's designed for

—Graduates, corporate managers, and career changers looking to climb the corporate ladder or move into consulting

✓Owners of established private businesses with $5m–$100m in annual revenue who want to move themselves and their business to the next level

Learning Approach

—Academic theory, case studies from large multinationals, classroom lectures, and research-based frameworks

✓Practical application of proven business principles in immersive residential sessions — everything connects directly to your business, right now

How Success is Measured

—Academic grades, essays, and exams. Success is measured in marks — not business results

✓Business outcomes. There are no academic assessments. Success is measured in what you do differently in your business

Duration & Commitment

—1–2 years full-time, or 3–4 years part-time. Significant distraction from running your business

✓Five months, in five structured residential blocks of three days and two nights each. Designed to fit around running your business

Your Peer Group

—Mostly graduates and employees. Very few fellow business owners. Conversations calibrated to their world — not yours

✓A small, confidential cohort of 20 private business owners — no consultants, no employees, no CEOs-for-hire. Just owners, with real skin in the game

Who Teaches You

—Academics and researchers. Often highly credentialed — but rarely people who have actually owned and built a private business

✓Delivered by experienced business owners, operators, and subject-matter experts – all with real-world experience building, scaling, and leading private businesses.

Relevance to Your Business

—You study general management principles and must figure out how to apply them to your specific situation. The translation gap is real

✓Everything is built around your business, your challenges, and your goals. You leave each session with a practical plan you can implement immediately

Cost

—$50,000–$120,000+ in tuition fees, plus the opportunity cost of your time over 1–4 years

✓A fraction of the cost — and unlike an MBA, the return on investment shows up directly in your business during and after the program

Outcome

—A post-nominal qualification that signals academic achievement and is valuable for career progression in a corporate context

✓A transformed business. Clearer strategy, stronger leadership, better systems, and the tools to take your business — and your life — to the next level

OMP is not an academic program and does not confer a degree or post-nominal qualification. It is designed for business owners who prioritise results over credentials.

What You Actually Get From OMP

OMP covers the six strategic dimensions that determine whether a private business thrives, plateaus, or declines. Every session is built around practical application — because understanding a concept is worthless unless you can use it in your business.

01

Strategy That Works in the Real World

Move beyond gut feel and develop a clear, evidence-based strategy for growth. Understand where your business is now, where it needs to be, and exactly how to get there — built around your specific context, not a generic framework.

02

Leadership & People

Build the leadership capacity to stop being the bottleneck in your own business. Develop the team around you, create genuine management depth, and build an organisation that performs at its best — whether you’re in the room or not.

03

Financial Mastery

Understand your numbers with the depth and confidence of a sophisticated business owner. Drive profitability, manage cash flow, and make capital allocation decisions that compound value over time — without relying entirely on your accountant.

04

Systems & Scalability

Build the operational infrastructure that allows your business to scale without you scaling with it. Document what works, systematise your best practices, and create a business that is genuinely transferable — whether you plan to sell it or not.

05

Growth & Commercial Strategy

Identify your most significant growth opportunities and the strategies most likely to capture them. From pricing and market positioning to acquisition and channel development — understand what will move the needle and what won’t.

06

Owner & Business Future

Define what success looks like for you — not just for the business. Align your personal goals with your business strategy, and build a clear vision for the next chapter, whether that’s growth, succession, exit, or something else entirely.

Why we built OMP — and why it's not an MBA

Rob Douglas and Chris Robinson have spent their careers in private business — not in academia. Chris Robinson was the CEO of Amart Allsports when he led a $100m management buyout with private equity firm Archer Capital in 2004, before growing the business to $240m in revenue and orchestrating the acquisition of Rebel Sport in 2007.

Rob brings a decade of experience developing growth and exit strategies for private businesses across Australia, including partnerships with the Wharton School of Business. Both Rob and Chris looked at what existed for business owners and found it wanting. The MBA was the wrong program. Executive education was too generic. Coaching was too individual. OMP was built to fill the gap.

It is the program they wish had existed when they were building their businesses — and it’s unlike anything else in the market.
